MISSION STATEMENT
The Metropolitan Museum of Design Detroit Provides Access To the Design Industry Through Educational Enrichment and Experiential Opportunities.
VISION
The Metropolitan Museum of Design Detroit (MM-O-DD, pronounced “mod”) is the singular design museum in Detroit. As the only UNESCO City of Design in the United States, we take our HOME of Detroit and our place in this community to heart. MM-O-DD provides access and champions the Design Industry through educational enrichment and experiential opportunities. As such, the three pillars of MM-O-DD are: Brainworxx, Biodesign, and Voices = People & Choices = Careers. Our Research Department documents Detroiters lengthy history by Honoring Black Designers. Each pillar ties the world of design to the community of Detroit and the surrounding areas with strategic goals to expand to the whole state of Michigan and beyond through an established local-to-global resources pathway, collaboration opportunities, and community participation/participants. As a younger museum, established in 2015, MM-O-DD thrived as a 100% volunteer-run 501c3 not-for-profit. We are now fundraising for a permanent space as Detroit Deserves a BIG Design Museum. Currenttly our mighty team is full speed ahead to boost our reach to the next phase of community programming with our sttrong partners for 2025, 2026 and 2027.
