DEIA STATEMENT

At the Metropolitan Museum of Design Detroit (MM-O-DD), we are committed to fostering an environment that promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA). The mission of the Metropolitan Museum of Design Detroit is to provide access to educational enrichment and experiential opportunities to boost the design industry to diverse communities as a way to celebrate the rich tapestry of cultures, perspectives and experiences that combine to form the world of design. At MM-O-DD, everyone, regardless of background or identity, is valued and included as we celebrate and encourage a wide range of perspectives, ideas, and backgrounds.

DIVERSITY
MM-O-DD strives to have every aspect of the programming, exhibitions, and initiatives of the museum. We aim to shine a light on diverse voices and stories that shape our society. These voices and stories represent a broad spectrum of cultures, races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, ages, abilities, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

EQUITY
We are committed to providing equitable opportunities for all individuals within the MM-O-DD community and beyond. At MM-O-DD, access is the golden key to knowledge for all; dismantling barriers as they are presented and building the necessary bridges to connect individuals and communities to ensure equity.

INCLUSION
Inclusion is at the heart of the MM-O-DD mission as we strive to create a welcoming and respectful environment where all individuals feel a sense of belonging and the safety to explore and question the world around them. We continuously seek out the contributions of underrepresented and marginalized groups, ensuring their voices have a platform that is respected and valued.

ACCESSIBILITY
MM-O-DD is dedicated to programming that is accessible to everyone through the use of physical, digital and sensory accessibility accommodations. Our facilities, communications, and services are continuously assessed to ensure accessibility to all involved with the museum.

OUR COMMITMENT
Education and Training: MM-O-DD provides ongoing DEIA training for our staff, volunteers, and board members to ensure a thorough understanding and ongoing commitment to these principles.
Community Engagement: We actively engage with our diverse community, fostering partnerships and collaborations that enhance our DEIA efforts.
Accountability: We are held accountable by regular assessment of our DEIA practices through our board of directors, executive board, advisory and social councils in order to make necessary improvements and adjustments to MM-O-DD policies and programs.
Transparency: MM-O-DD’s DEIA initiatives, progress, updates and outcomes are shared openly with our community in a spirit of complete transparency.

At MM-O-DD, we believe that design has the power to bring people together and drive positive change. Embracing DEIA enriches our institution and contributes to a more just and inclusive society. We invite you to join us in our ongoing journey towards greater diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility within MM-O-DD and beyond.
